Press Room
Carol Ross in the Media
Body+Soul magazine, March 2008, Happiness@Work. This article gives six solutions to work problems, making you just bit happier at work. I'm quoted in the solutions around burnout--from setting boundaries to taking small breaks to changing your scenery. The magazine's website, unfortunately, doesn't have the article online.
Les Echos, Coaches for Young American Graduates, August 31, 2007. This newspaper article, written in French, discusses how coaching can help new college graduates find the right fit in a job. In addition to being quoted, one of my clients talks about the benefit from working with me.
Career Life Balance Radio, www.wnri.com, August 22, 2007. Radio interview with CoachDQ, Dawn Quesnel, host of Career Life Balance Radio on Boundary Crossers, individuals who operate in many worlds but fit in none and the unique challenges they face.
New York Times, July 16,2007, Young, Confused, and in Need of Coaching. Part of a Coaches Roundtable, I answer a question on finding a career that accommodates a diverse set of interests.
Northwestern University magazine, Spring 2007, Career Coaches Coax Change. Article on my own career change and how I now help others to find the work they are meant to do.
Northwestern University magazine, Spring 2007, Get An Earful on Careers. Article on career development podcast jointly developed with the Northwestern University Alumni Association. I had a blast interviewing alumni authors with sage advice on managing your career.
U S News and World Report, June 26, 2006, Anxiety Attack. The subtitle is 'The economy hums, but a wary middle class feels the dual burdens of uncertainty and risk.' Look for the last two paragraphs where I'm quoted about 'making my own luck' and 'creating my own destiny.' I also talk about being laid off from Avaya. A friend from Avaya reports that someone has posted this article on a bulletin board, with my name highlighted. Ahhh, poetic justice!
There's also a nice picture of me in the article, taken by a top-notch photographer who told great stories while he did a two-hour photo shoot in my backyard. His response, when I initially thought this was a 30-minute appointment, was "This is not point-and-click."
Look for a back issue of US News and World Report at your local library to get the full effect with the photo.

I was interviewed by Judi Neal as part of a series of articles on "Edgewalkers" leaders who have the capacity to walk between different worlds and integrate seemingly opposing paradigms. Judi is the Executive Director of The Association for Spirit at Work, a membership organization that supports personal and organizational transformation through coaching, education, research, speaking, and publications. You can download the article from Amazon.com:
Traverse City Record Eagle, October 11, 2006, Conversations On Living and Dying. Newspaper article on the podcast, Conscious Living, Conscious Leaving. I talk about my interviews with a friend dying of ALS on living and dying well.
Traditionally, the phrase "Press Room" implies being quoted or featured in the mainstream press--magazines, newspapers, television, radio. However, as blogs become authoritative and useful as another source of information, it feels like they should also be part of any Press Room. Here's where I've appeared in the blogosphere:
I was interviewed in January 2007 on Andrea Lee's blog, an innovator in the coaching industry. Click here to read what I have to say about building a brand.
I've maintained a blog, Ordinary Life, Extraordinary Living, since 2005. I'm pleased that other bloggers have thought enough of my posts to quote me or link to a particular post. My thanks to fellow bloggers, Marci Alboher, William Arruda, Jodee Bock, Debbie Call, Hanna Cooper, Deb Cooperman, Dan Pink, Maria Sariego, who have all put me in their personal press boxes at one time or another.
Over the years, I've done a lot of speaking to groups. And the ones I've enjoyed the most are International Coach Federation annual conference (2006) and the Net Impact annual conference (2004). What's not to like about hanging out with people trying to change the world, person by person and business by business?
I also enjoyed being a guest speaker on the Coaching Salon, a regular live call hosted by Shirley Anderson on the art and science of masterful coaching. Look for the June 19, 2006 call in the archives.
If you are looking for a creative speaker to bring whole brain thinking to a business group, please contact me. I'm known for taking an ordinary topic and with the audience, exploring it intelligently, creatively, and authentically.
